Chez MainLine 2012-11-20

We few, we lucky few. We who were chosen in the Fringe lottery shall rejoice and revel in Fate's good graces. E'en admist our merriment we shall shed a woeful tear for those who suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune and found themselves on the acursed Waiting list with naught to do but hope until the last syllable of recorded time that they too will strut and fret their hour upon the stage.
-William Shakespeare (sort of)

The Coles Notes verion:
Congratulations to all those who were selected to participate in the 2013 St-Ambroise Montreal FRINGE at last week's lottery. The list of FRINGE companies as well as the waiting list will be up on the FRINGE website this week (www.montrealfringe.ca). If you are on the waiting list, don't despair. We can usually fit in a few more companies once scheduling starts. If you don't want to wait that long, or are fairly low down on the waiting list, there is always the option of finding your own venue and doing what we call an OFF.

There will be an OFF workshop for interested companies at MainLine Theatre on Monday November 26th at 7pm. It is the ideal place to get useful information about how to go about doing this, what we can help you with and what we can't. You will also get to meet other OFF comapnies and see what resources can be shared as well as the opportunity to discuss site specific ideas.

Also, If you are a student company, you should probably check out:
Student Gala/Gala Étudiant

MainLine Theatre & The Factory Line Collective Present:

The 3rd Annual Gala for Student Drama! MainLine Theatre and The Factory Line collective join forces for a third year to present the annual Gala for student drama.

This non profit event wishes to give aspiring student playwrights, directors and actors a professional setting from which they will be able to springboard into the domain. The organizations wish to give students the opportunity to produce a short play outside of school, giving them that first "official production" that is often so hard to get in the industry.

The event will take place on February 14th, 15th, and 16th, 2013, at MainLine Theatre, giving each production 3 nights of stage appearance. Rehearsal time as well as professional tech-support will be provided to the final 4 productions.

The deadline for submissions is December 16th, 2012. The application form may be downloaded here.

But that's enough about FRINGE for the moment. We'll get back to it in just a couple minutes but first we do have a few cool MainLine shows this week, starting with:
Les Grosses Geishas

Company website

«Deux agents doubles, héroïnes de cette comédie policière, tiennent un salon de geishas afin de capturer un tueur en série japonais, en cavale à Montréal.
Alliant le raffinement de l'univers geisha avec ce que l'américanité a de plus grotesque, les personnages vous servent un implacable humour trash. Plongeant le spectateur dans l'univers du manga, Les grosses geishas est une aventure esthétique à la fois ludique, sensuelle et violente.»
Running Thursday November 22nd to Saturday December 1st. Check mainlinetheatre.ca for showtimes and tickets.

Let's Do This! #02: Get Naked!

Bloody Underrated & DeAnne Smith

Company website

Bloody Underrated & DeAnne Smith are proud to present LET'S DO THIS! - 5 events, 5 different themes, great stand-up comedy on a monthly basis until February.

This month's theme is GET NAKED! What does that mean exactly? Well, for one, it means that all comedians will be in some state of undress at some point. There are stakes. And risks! Al's "Wheel of drinking" will also be heavily modified to include clothing-optional tasks.

Curious to see how naked comics are willing to get? So are we!

The comedians gracing the stage for this under-clothed event are:

Kirsten Rasmussen!
Darren Henwood!
& your headliner DeAnne Smith!
As always, this show will be hosted by Al Lafrance.

5$, 9PM, LET'S DO THIS!

When Matt Goldbeg (of Uncalled For and Confabulation fame) pitched me this show, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it at first. Then I read his description below and it all made sense.

Bandolier of Dreams

A soiree of gleefully delicious, wordy yet unscripted mayhem.
The dangerously beautiful Kirsten Rasmussen as speaker of words, doer of things and drinker of wine number 1, also as woman.
The hypnotically handsome Matt Goldberg as speaker of words, doer of things and drinker of wine number 2, also as man 1.
The thoughtful dancer Mike Hughes as speaker of words, doer of things and drinker of wine number 3, also as man 2.
We'll create character and situation and even full-blown stories. But mostly just make the trivial imperative, and the imperative forgettable.
9pm, Friday November 23rd, 8$ Also in the Mini Main.
