Re-Politiser Borduas

Oli Sorenson

Company website

For his performance, Oli Sorenson will cut into several reproductions of the works of Paul-Emile Borduas, which he executed simply by examining jpeg found on the Internet, and unfaithfully respecting their material features. Through this combination of gestures that appear at first glance iconoclastic, the artist seeks to reclaim the provocative properties of these works, which now constitute an important segment of Quebec's artistic traditions. His performance to lacerate copies also intends to rekindle the originals with their controversial roots, and a visual experience that may be closer to the initial reception of these paintings, first shown publicly in the 1950s.

Vernissage: Saturday, October 7, 5 - 10pm

The gallery is open on October 5 - 15, from 12 - 8 pm
