Chez MainLine 2012-11-06

Now that I've seen Interim General Manager Al Lafrance get robbed of wrestling glory by the dirty, cheating Jiant Tyger in a no holds barred Battle Royale last week, it's finally official: I have now seen everything. Which coincidently is not unlike our MainLine programming for the next couple of weeks....EVERYTHING. We got so much going on you may want to move in here for a while. Let's get started with...

BATMAN: THE MOVIE (1966)

vs.

FLASH GORDON (1980)

That's right! Batman: The Movie will be facing off against Flash Gordon. Who will be the winner? Only you can decide!

In case you're unfamiliar with this event, here's how it works:

We pick two movies.
You vote for which one you'd like to watch by commenting on the Facebook page of this event.
Voting closes the day before the show.
The B.U. Team invents a drinking game based on the film with the most votes, as well as a unique drink to be served exclusively on the night of the show.
...then you come watch the film, play the game, and have fun!

NOTE: The film will be preceded by an episode of Mork & Mindy. Why not?

6$ and note that this will be happening in the Mini Main.

and then at 10pm...

** November Hootenanny
------------------------------------------------------------

** Friday Night Hootenanny
------------------------------------------------------------

Friends! Friends! Where would be without friends?

This month we will feature some good friends of the Hootenanny and some of my spectacularly talented personal friends.

Mike and Kaitlyn: You know them for hosting amazing shows at the Mile End Guitar Shop and as the makers of exceptional instruments, but you ought to hear them sing and play together! Lovely!

Diana Daly: Her disc "When Women Kill" is a beautiful example of Diana's songwriting power. Live, she's a fireball.

Sarah-Jane Scouten: This represents Sarah-Jane's triumphant return to the hootenanny after months of touring and playing from the far north to the deep south. Although this will be her 24th show since she came back last week, she is eternally entertaining and worth seeing again and again.

Matt Large: The Large Man himself! Years of honed chops and a powerful voice, Matt is a tireless supporter of folk and roots music in Montréal and one of the scene's great performers.

Bobby Dove: If Hank Williams was a petite urban cowgirl with a deep soulful voice, they would call him BOBBY DOVE!

Ben "Baltimore Washington" Brandes: You know him as the frontman of The Unsettlers but you ought to hear him with just an acoustic guitar. Boom!

Casey Alexander: Will raise a horn full of ale and regale us with a tale!

8$

Not enough you say? You still want more? Okay, how about...

** Confabulation: Defiance
------------------------------------------------------------

Confabulation is a unique storytelling event in Montreal where all the stories are true. They are honest accounts, told without notes, props, or gimmicks. The show is inspired by The Moth, and millennia of oral tradition history, and hopes to encourage the practice and art of storytelling in this contemporary world.

Hosted and produced by local actor and comedian Matt Goldberg, Confabulation brings you a showcase of unique, true tales told live by people.

All kinds of people.
Doctors. Boxers. Students. Grandmas. You.
Anybody.
And hopefully, everybody.

November's theme is Defiance: Stories of stand-offs, standing up and stepping out of line.
Saturday November 10th at 8pm, 6$

Immediately followed by:
Uncalled For presents: Defiance (improvisation inspired by Confabulation

For the very first time, your favourite storytelling show will be the source of inspiration for your favourite funnymaking troupe.

Uncalled For is a long-running improv and sketch comedy troupe (coincidentally co-founded by Matt Goldberg). This month, in the spirit of DEFIANCE, they will attempt an improv
format that they have never tried before... Immediately following Confabulation, Uncalled For will take to the stage and create a tapestry of improvised comedy inspired by, and woven through with, audio clips from the true stories that were just told.

So from the real stories of real people, will emerge the invented adventures of Uncalled For! We DEFY you to resist this incredible double-bill.

Saturday Nov. 10th at 11pm. 10$ (or 5$ if you were at Confabulation)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's 8 shows in 5 days! It may sound like a lot but the following week we will also have 8 shows in 5 days only this time they will all be performed by the same person. MainLine Theatre is thrilled to welcome back the incomparible (and seemingly inexaustable) Mike Delamont for an encore presentation of his Fringe Hit GOD IS A SCOTTISH DRAG QUEEN. (Nov 14th @8pm, Nov 16th and 17th @7pm.) and the sequel GOD IS A SCOTTISH DRAG QUEEN 2: THE SECOND COMING (Nov 15th @8pm, Nov. 16th and 17th @ 9pm) as well as the new stand up showHUSKY PANDA (Nov 16th and 17th @ 11pm)
