Snowglobe Workshop Series: Own the Stage

Snowglobe Theatre

Company website

In this workshop we'll take a look at the art of using the stage, which includes positioning, angles, movement, and how this all applies to your acting scene.
One of the most important parts of working with a director is not only to be able to carry out their wishes easily, but also to contribute to the scene with our own artistic skill. This workshop will cover both sides of the issue: how to carry out the director's instructions, but also how to navigate the stage using our own instincts, so that the scenes not only have all the power they should but so that the audience gets to see the best show possible. We will look at this both from an acting and from an aesthetic standpoint.

Scene partners will be assigned to each other and each team will receive a short script to prepare in advance, which you'll use during the workshop to explore movement and use of the stage. While you're not expected to be off-book, you are encouraged to familiarize yourself with the text beforehand, to have as much freedom as possible for use of the body and interactions with scene partners.

This three-hour workshop is one night only, and is pay-what-you-can (suggested donation of $10-15). There’s a cap of 14 participants, but auditors are welcome. Reservations will take priority; walk-ins willing to cold read the scenes will be accepted if there’s room. We request that participants show up 5-10 min before the workshop begins.

This is the fourth one-night workshop offered by Snowglobe Theatre, as we continue our intention to help build up the strength of Montreal’s local talent and to provide an avenue for continued training.

Reserve your place by emailing director Peter Giser at peter.giser@snowglobetheatre.org.
