Workshop: Three Different Paths to a First Draft

Cameryn Moore

Company website

For writers who already believe in "pounding out" the first draft or for those who would like to try stream-of-consciousness writing for the first time... How does the method of production affect process? How does that, in turn, affect product? Find out for yourself by testing out three different modes of writing--longhand, word processing, and typing on a manual typewriter. Participants will rotate through stations with timed free-writing prompts and timed independent segments as well, interspersed with group discussion and sharing of writing (only if you want). Bring: your own laptop, writing notebook, and either a piece that you are stuck on or a piece you want to get started on. Manual typewriters will be available. Limit: 15 participants. Length: 90 minutes

Cameryn Moore is an award-winning playwright, writer, and performer who regularly churns out Shitty First Drafts in all three modes.

What if you entered an empty rehearsal hall and suddenly an audience appears? Joseph Ste-Marie brings his experimental scripted/improvised one-man show, This Show is Broken back to the stage! This remount blends the 2021 Digital Theatre production from the Montreal FRINGE Festival and the original 2015 production at the 2nd annual Shortstanding Festival. Ste-Marie must perform his show as he explores his life, struggles, missteps, and tries to show that it’s not too late to pursue your dreams…. However, Joseph is challenged to be honest with himself so his show can be authentic as possible without being blinded by ambition.
